Discovering Dowsing – Episode 2: Avebury’s Mystical Energies

with Alex Russell-Stoneham & David Atkinson

There are places in the world where the land feels alive — where the air holds memory, the earth hums with presence, and ancient stones stand like gateways between worlds. Avebury is one of those places. More expansive and immersive than its famous sibling Stonehenge, Avebury invites you to step not just into history, but into relationship.

🎧 Watch / Listen to the Episode:

In this episode of Discovering Dowsing, David and I return to Avebury — not just as visitors, but as listeners. We explore its vast stone circles, the ley lines that flow through it, and the quiet yet potent energies that reveal themselves when we approach with stillness and presence.

A Living Landscape of Stone and Story

Avebury’s stone circles are among the largest in Europe — a whole village sits within them. And yet, the stones retain a sense of autonomy and quiet power.

We explore:

  • Ley lines, including the powerful Michael–Mary line

  • The healing spring vortex near the southern circle

  • How the stones interact with earth currents, sky patterns, and the human field

This is a site where energy is not theoretical — it’s felt.

History Alive Beneath Your Feet

We touch on the work of William Stukeley, one of the earliest protectors of the site, whose drawings and maps helped preserve Avebury from being dismantled in the 18th century.

His devotion to these sacred sites reminds us that heritage is not just about stones — it’s about the continuity of relationship between people and place.

Personal Experiences: Awe, Discomfort & Softening

When David and I first visited, we were struck not just by the stones — but by the road and village running through the circle.
Something ancient meeting something everyday.

But as we slowed down… the atmosphere shifted.
The stones began to speak.

Stillness revealed presence.
Presence revealed relationship.

The Energetic Touch of Avebury

With dowsing, the site becomes even more alive:

  • Stones have distinct energetic signatures

  • Points along the circle amplify or soften the body’s field

  • Some areas feel grounding, others expansive or dreamlike

Taking time to simply stand, breathe, listen… opens the door.

Sound as a Key

We explore the practice of OM-ing and sound resonance — how vibrating your voice through your bones and breath acts almost like a tuning fork, aligning your own field to the land.

Didgeridoo, toning, chanting — sound becomes relationship.

And Avebury receives it well.

For Those Who Feel Called to Visit

If you’re drawn to Avebury:

  • Begin with Silbury Hill and West Kennet Long Barrow

  • Walk slowly into the circle

  • Let your pace be guided by your senses, not the map

  • Find one stone to sit with

  • Ask nothing, expect nothing

  • Let the presence meet you

This is a place that responds to sincerity.
